 Welcome to
Copper State Golden Retrievers
Dedicated to loving, showing, training and preserving Golden Retrievers

Why choose us

What separates a backyard breeder or a pet store from a Reputable Breeder like us here at Copper State?

Copper State Golden Retrievers
only breeds dogs with OFA and CERF Clearances.

The OFA or Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and CERF or Canine Eye Registration Foundation are groups of non-profit veterinarians that review the x-rays and other exams done by local veterinarians and evaluate those test results to determine if your dog has any diseases that would indicate you should not breed them. This is not the same as a simple clean bill of health from a veterinarian. These tests can cost hundreds of dollars and many dogs do not pass these exams. In Golden Retrievers the tests that any breeder should perform are an OFA Hip, OFA Elbow, OFA Heart, and CERF eye exam. Any reputable breeder should be able to provide you with copies of these certificates

Copper State Golden Retrievers competes with our dogs

Simply put not every Golden Retriever ( even those from a reputable breeder ) will make a good choice when breeding, We compete with our Goldens, I am sure you have all seen huge Goldens that weigh over 100 lbs...Check the Breed Standard, Goldens are not suppose to be that big, they should not be aggressive, they should be friendly and want to retrieve. Only golden retrievers that are a excellent representation of the breed should be used for breeding therefore ensuring the puppies will have the same excellent characteristics as the parents had.

We do daily Stimuli Activities with each puppy starting at 3 days old...take a look

Puppies need to be exposed to as many things as possible in a safe and clean environment, Many breeders simply let mom take care of the puppies. A puppy that has not been challenged and stimulated as a puppy ( when they do not have a natural fear response ) will be fearful, shy, nervous and once the fear response starts to develop at about 7 weeks it is very hard to get your puppy to accept new situations.

Puppies stay with us until they are at least 8 weeks of age

Many breeders will allow puppies to leave to their new homes at 6 weeks of age, this is a huge mistake. Between 6 and 8 weeks a puppy is constantly learning about the environment and its place in the pack. A good breeder will want to give the puppy the best possible start and will want to guide it through these crucial weeks of learning, training and socialization within the confines for the litter.

Our puppies are introduced to lots of different things when it is most important

From about 5 weeks of age a Golden Retriever puppy is very curious and has not learned to be afraid, but by the time thy go to their new home at 8 weeks of age they have  started to develop a fear response, so it is very important to expose them to as much as possible now when they are curious and ready to try anything....here we are introducing a puppy to swimming and the pool at 5 weeks of age...

And Perhaps the the most important thing we do with our Puppies below sending them to their new homes.....

WE LOVE THEM SO MUCH IT IS HARD WHEN WE HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE...

Our puppies are raised inside, with our family. They experience everything from the smell of something cooking on the stove to children running and screaming through the house. This is perhaps our biggest strength, our puppies learn how to love and bond with people and what it is like to live in a home so when they come home to live with you they can relax knowing the sound of a vacuum cleaner is not a monster and that people always eat first....the only down side to living with puppies is saying goodbye.
